What Are NDIS Transport Services on the Gold Coast?

NDIS transport services on the Gold Coast help participants get where they need to go – to medical appointments, allied health therapy sessions, work, day programs, and community activities. For many NDIS participants, accessing these places independently isn't possible without support. Transport isn't just about a ride; it's about maintaining independence, building connections, and participating in your community.

The two main types of NDIS transport funding are standalone transport (where you have a dedicated transport budget line in your plan specifically for getting to a destination) and transport as part of community access or support worker hours (where a support worker drives you as part of an active support session). Both options give you flexibility to get where you need to be, depending on your goals and funding.

Our Gold Coast transport workers know the local road network inside and out – from Coomera and Helensvale in the north to Coolangatta and Tweed Heads in the south. They're familiar with Gold Coast University Hospital, Robina Hospital, allied health clinics in Southport and Broadbeach, and can also help you connect to the Gold Coast light rail stations for independent community travel.

Transport can also be combined with other supports – for example, you might use transport to reach a community activity, where a support worker then accompanies you throughout. This flexibility means your support is tailored to your actual needs. Learn more about our full range of NDIS support services on the Gold Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about NDIS transport services on the Gold Coast

What does NDIS transport funding on the Gold Coast cover?
NDIS transport funding on the Gold Coast can cover travel to medical appointments, allied health therapies (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology), work, day programs, and social or community activities that a participant cannot access by public transport due to their disability. It can also cover fares or mileage when a support worker drives the participant as part of an active support session.
Do I need a separate transport budget in my NDIS plan?
It depends on how transport is being used. If you need standalone transport (a driver to take you somewhere), you generally need a dedicated transport budget in your plan. If transport is part of a community access or daily activities session where your support worker is actively supporting you throughout (not just driving), it may be funded from your Core Supports – Community Participation budget. Your support coordinator can clarify which applies to your plan.
Can the transport support worker wait with me at appointments?
Yes. If your support worker is with you as part of an active support session, they can accompany you into appointments, wait with you, or assist with communication if needed. The time spent waiting may be funded depending on your plan and the nature of the support. We discuss this with you during the initial consultation so there are no surprises.
